When You File an Extension With the IRS, Tax Payments are Still Due by the April 17 deadline
Filing an extension does not mean you don’t have to pay the IRS by April 17th if you owe. An extension only gives you an increase in time to file your tax returns. If you owe, you must pay by April 17th.
